Check your Google Business Profile first
Log in and look at:
- Is your profile verified? (There is a clear status indicator)
- Are all fields filled out?
- Is the primary category correct?
- Are there recent reviews and responses?
- Are there recent photos?
If any of these are weak, that's your first problem. Profiles that aren't verified or aren't complete rarely appear in the map pack.
Then check your website
Common issues:
- Site loads slowly, especially on mobile
- No actual content (just a template with stock photos)
- Inventory isn't accurate or current
- No city/location mentioned clearly on the homepage
- Missing contact info or inconsistent NAP (name, address, phone)
Google can't rank a site it can't index or understand.
Then check citation consistency
Search your dealership name across Yelp, Yellow Pages, DealerRater, Facebook, Cars.com, and AutoTrader. Every listing should have identical:
- Business name
- Street address (including the exact format: St vs Street vs St.)
- Phone number
Inconsistencies confuse Google's matching system and hurt local rankings.
Then look at reviews
If you have fewer than ten Google reviews or none from the last six months, that's a ranking problem. Google reads review recency as a signal of whether a business is still active.
If none of the above explains it
Possibility: your profile was suspended. Check for any suspension notices in the Google Business Profile dashboard. Common causes are keyword stuffing in the business name, service-area violations, or multiple listings for the same location.
What this looks like in North Carolina
NC dealers who recently moved locations, changed names, or had ownership transfers often have Business Profile issues that aren't obvious from the outside. A missing verification, a flagged listing, or a duplicate profile can all keep you invisible.
If you recently rebranded (for example changed from "Hwy 70 Auto" to "Route 70 Auto Sales"), make sure every directory reflects the new name. NC has more independent dealerships per capita than many states, which means citation cleanup is often the biggest unlock.
Where UsedNC.com fits
Listings on the KGI Network create clean, consistent citations back to your dealership. That feeds the same signals Google uses to decide whether you're legitimate and local.
We also drive direct searches for your dealership name, which helps Google understand that buyers in NC are actively looking for you.
